fall CULTURAL MUSIC INTENSIVE.

BEGINS SEPTEMBER 14.

Join the Bonifacio Valera, Jr. Foundation's Rhythm & Roots program — an intensive cultural music and movement workshop for children held every Monday at the South San Francisco Park & Recreation Library Building, 901 Civic Campus Way, South San Francisco, CA.

We are kuya Bon - a Filipino youth cultural drum line

In Rhythm & Roots, we don't just play music. We drum, we sing, we learn, we groove  — and we do it all rooted in Filipino culture.

Children are introduced to their Filipino heritage through language, song, and tradition passed down for generations. Folk tunes get woven with in with rhythmic beats and Tagalog words come alive through song, repetition and play. Kids don't just drum, sing, and learn Tagalog — they pick up music theory, learn to feel the rhythm, and experience old and new sounds coming together. And to make language learning stick, we've hand-crafted interactive games that get children actively involved, not just taught.

Every Monday, your child will:

  • Drum — build real rhythm skills and proper technique

  • Sing — Filipino folk songs that connect them to their roots

  • Study — basic music theory, the language behind the music

  • Speak — basic Tagalog

Our cultural music program is intensive — and that's intentional.

Each week, children take home a cultural practice packet — rhythms to practice, songs to review, words to learn, etc... Assignments are given each week to be submitted by week's end via email so we can review each child's progress and prepare personalized feedback before the next Monday's lesson.

The work they do during the week is what makes the following Monday class magical.

This is a commitment — and the results will show it.

The Rhythm & Roots Filipino Youth Cultural drumline is small on purpose. Every child gets real attention, real feedback, and real growth. This class is for kids who are curious, eager, and ready to show up and do the work — week after week.
